This riad is a true gem in the best possible location in Marrakech, two minutes on foot from Jemaa El Fna....The riad arranged for an airport pickup and then drop off at the train station on the day we left; they also hired a car for us so that we could take a day trip to Essaouira...-- all transport was perfect. We felt as if we were saying goodbye to old friends after just a couple of days at the Riad -- would highly recommend!

Access is via an unassuming alleyway off the main street so you really aren't prepared for the feast of the senses that awaits you inside. It is a gem of a Riad, decorated to perfection with Berber crafts and centered round a tranquil courtyard, complete with small pool and full of flowers and birdsong.

What really makes the place special though is Peggy, the lovely American owner, and her staff, all of whom are from the same Berber family. They were immensely friendly and welcoming, and we enjoyed impeccable service with a genuine personal touch throughout our stay. We felt we got all the advantages of staying in a family home but with the top class service of a great hotel! ...The included breakfast was fantastic - every morning we came down to find a beautifully decorated table laid out by the pool and feasted on pancakes, fresh homemade bread with jam and honey, yogurts and boiled eggs. ...Overall this is one of the best places we have ever stayed anywhere in the world and I really can't recommend the Amirat al Jamal too highly. I would most definitely stay here if I visit Marrakech again – in fact I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else.

To get close to an authentic riad experience I couldn't recommend the Amirat Al Jamal highly enough, if I could award it 6 stars, I would. It is not an ordinary 5 star boutique hotel, it is a little bit different, but in a good way that adds to the experience. e.g. authentic Berber furniture and artworks.

It was in Marrakech that we stayed at my favorite riad ...part of an old Alaouite palace....Everything is authentic, color co-ordinated and the attention to the smallest detail was amazing. ... The rooms were stunning.... I couldn't get over the bathroom we had with its vibrant, exotic red and yellow tile combination with brass accents, plush yellow robes and again

attention to detail with welcoming brass bucket of bottled water, shampoos, Kleenex, face wipes, Q-tips, éclair candies....

....Hamidu could not do enough to ensure we had a relaxing stay and would often walk us to places to ensure we knew the way, a lot more than you get from most places for your money....The food made by Hamidu was incredible and rivaled some of the top restaurants around....I can strongly say that this Riad is one of the best places to stay in the world.

Riad Amirat Al Jamal's decor is straight out of Architectural Digest and the food was the best we had over our 12-day stay in both France and Morocco. We ate all of our meals at the Riad culminating with a spectacular dinner on their rooftop terrace. Perhaps what sets this Riad apart is the balance it strikes between opulence and friendliness.

It is difficult to describe how beautiful the riad is - there are treasures everywhere, pots, tapestries paintings,...and furniture all in keeping with the Berber style that the hotel embraces, and everything has a story. All the rooms are individual, and everything has been thought of - down to plastic coverings on shelves, so you don't snag your clothing on the beautiful wooden cupboards. It is as luxurious as a Hyatt or a Hilton, but so much more special - from a book of dreams next to the bed, a study full of books, current fiction bestsellers and classics, alongside books on Morocco and Islam, and there magazines everywhere. The place has been renovated with so creativity, so much attention to detail and so much thought about what guests will want.

Peggy, the American owner, has to one of the most enthusiastic lovers of all things Moroccan. We chatted to her for a couple of hours, and the time just flew by. She is so knowledgeable and helpful that her talks are worth the trip on their own. Her staff are from the same Berber family and saw to our every need....this is a hidden gem.

We had a really lovely, restful break and we both feel we could not have asked for more from any hotel. However, it was more than that somehow-- more a rest for the soul and we have come back feeling wonderfully refreshed. It was lovely feeling part of a family.
